Normally, my go-to lipsticks are red or nude, with a coral or pink thrown in during the summer for some variety. Although I am a recovering lip addict, I’m not super adventurous with my colour choices. Greys, browns, and the ever trendy “greige” don’t really do it for me. And forget about the blues and lilacs! They can look great on other people, but they just aren’t for me.

With all lip colours, I tend to gravitate towards warmer shades in general. I just find the cooler tones to be less flattering on me. Brown-reds and purple-reds are what I tend to go for when I want to mix things up. Even for really dark shades, I need a hint of warmth (usually brown) in there for me to really feel in sync with the shade.
Bite Beauty‘s Mulberry is as purple as it ever gets for me. I have it in the old formula, which they have gotten rid of, but it’s a really creamy lipstick. If you aren’t into the purples, Scarlet (in the same line) is a great deep browny-red, a true oxblood. If you’re looking for more of a matte finish, and more brown than red, Tarte‘s lip pencil in Squad is an okay option. Be sure to wear it with a balm underneath or over top cause it is super drying! Ciate London‘s Voodoo is as dark as I ever go, but I keep it on standby for days when I’m feeling particularly “vampy.”
One thing I find almost universally true of these deeper lip products is it’s harder to get a super even, non-patchy coverage than with lighter shades. It’s not impossible, you just have to work a little harder. Out of these brands, Bite Beauty definitely performed the best, but I’m not surprised. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…. Their lipsticks are superb, some of the best I’ve ever tried and definitely one of my favourites.
I’d love to know what your favourite fall lippies are! Not to add to my collection or anything, just, you know….For science.
