Winter came overnight. I'm so grateful we were able to get rid of the tree leaning on our fence this fall. You can see the next closest tree in the second photo, still kind of encroaching on our backyard, a mere 4 feet away. These trees are a good 30 feet, so you can imagine how far the branches of the closest tree leaned into our property. Every ice storm or windy day, I'd watch it sway, thinking one day, it'd come down in our backyard. And the branches were probably big enough to reach the house. So thankful that tree is gone! This is about the time of year when I try to get the Christmas lights up outside. It's usually a joyous time for me (I love Christmas) but obviously, I've had a lot on my mind. It feels wrong to take pleasure in anything right now, but I'm still going to do it. Not only because Theo keeps asking me when we're going to decorate, but I don't want my kids' lives to stand still while I'm trying to process how so many people can still think innocent people deserve to be massacred. Or that they're not innocent because they were born a colour and in a country they didn't choose. Or that it doesn't affect us, so we should just ignore it. I don't think my soul will ever be the same. #freepalestine

Scrolling through my photos and I totally forgot about this Mad Hatter Halloween makeup picture I took. I haven't worn a lot of makeup lately. It's hard to take pleasure in a lot of things I used to these days. It doesn't feel right and I'd probably just cry it all off anyway. But I just felt it was so surreal to see this now because I absolutely feel as mad as a hatter. Nothing I've ever done has felt more like I'm screaming into the void and no one can hear me. My MP hasn't responded to my emails, not even a low-effort intern copy & paste non-answer. Governments and the media are still trying to gaslight us. And ordinary people are so scared or getting so tired, it's paralyzing us or making us look away. The only thing that gives me any faith left in humanity is seeing all the millions of people around the world gathering for the plight of Palestine, even Jewish people. Bad faith actors want to divide us, and make us believe one people's struggles are diametrically opposed to another's, but it's not true. You can believe in and aid in the humanity of one group without stripping away the humanity of another. If anyone is trying to make you believe otherwise, you should be very suspicious of them! I'm trying my best to learn and share, I won't always be perfect about it, but I honestly believe when the dust settles, in 10, 20, 50 years, I need to be able to live with myself and my actions or inactions. When it was so easy to do nothing, say nothing, I took some risks. I learned, I listened, I did the bare minimum. That when a genocide was happening before my eyes, I didn't just go along with it because it was confusing or complicated or too sad to witness. Never again means never again for anyone. #freepalestine

Posting pictures and going on with life as if ever

Posting pictures and going on with life as if everything is normal feels so fake and useless. I think if I didn't have kids, I would be paralyzed. But there's always a million things going on with them, which is a blessing in a lot of ways, even the illnesses, even the tantrums. I know life has always been absurd, but it really feels like none of this can be real. I'm trying to remember the last time things seemed not terrible. Was I just lied to? Or ignorant? Imperfect in my actions (or inaction)? Probably. Palestine, the Congo, the trans kids in Canada, they still haven't searched the landfill....it's so much to hold onto when you feel powerless to do anything. But the least we can do is bear witness. Share stories. Lend our voices to their struggle. Even if it changes nothing, we can strengthen our own humanity, wake up every day declaring that power and money and lies are not stronger than our connection to one another. That conviction matters. I'm saying this to myself, as a reminder that every little thing we do matters. It's not useless, it can't be useless. It will never be useless to uphold humanity. #freepalestine #searchthelandfill #transkidsmatter #congogenocide

I worked on my Halloween costume when I had some time the other day...I can't tell if it's clear what this is supposed to be??? I'm working mostly with what I've got already 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm just hoping I can convince Hazel to put on her Alice I'm Wonderland costume when the time comes 😓 I really thought I'd have one last Halloween where she wouldn't care what she wears, but silly me, this 15-month-old has strong opinions about everything already 😭 I mean, good for her???
